Recently - there is a greater interest in assigning AO claims to the BLUE WATER Navy. We have some sailors who could use the VA help given their current conditions. There may be some USS O'Callahan sailors who served in these units as well. This link was contributed by Joseph Allen. One sailor had earlier asked if the deck log of O'Callahan might show of his temporary assignment to a PBR and shore activity that would verify his exposure to agent orange. I am not sure if those logs would show the unit assigned but the logs are housed in naval archives in Washington D.C.

The O'Callahan also visited Vung Tao Harbor for a week in 1971. The ship's crew was exposed to the "Brown Water" of the Saigon River. Two ships listed on the Agent Orange web site are mentioned in the Deck Log as being in port with the O'Callahan at Vung Tao.
For my Shipmates from the 72/73 cruise I have been rated 70% for AO exposure...Vic was a great asset and the action reports confirmed our close proximity to the shore. I am a Nevada Veteran Advocate, certified by the Nevada Department of Veterans Services(NDVS). I volunteer at the Veterans Resource Center(VTRC) in Las Vegas. I am trying to assist an O'Callahan vet who has several AO connected diseases. The VA has turned him down several times because they claim the O'Callahan was never in Vietnam during his tour of duty from 1968-1972. There is evidence for 1973, but he maintains that there were two deployments prior to 1973. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I have deck logs and copies of some newsletters the O'Callahan sent to families, but that is not enough for the VA. Thank you for your service and thank you for any help you can provide me.
